Position Purpose
The
Conservation and Revegetation Manager
is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising field operations associated with ecological restoration, revegetation, conservation land management, and environmental projects. The role ensures activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with environmental regulations, project specifications, and client requirements.
The Manager leads field teams undertaking native vegetation establishment, weed control (manual and chemical), habitat restoration, erosion control, seed collection, planting programs, and site maintenance while maintaining high standards of environmental stewardship, quality, and workplace safety.
Expertise in native plants, land rehabilitation and ecological restoration is crucial for achieving APACE WA's conservation objectives. The role requires prior field experience in revegetation planting and qualifications in conservation land management or similar (or equivalent experience). Horticultural expertise is also desirable.
This full-time position is based on site in North Fremantle with travel to restoration sites within the Perth area, and some residential field trips outside of Perth when required.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations Management
Plan, schedule, and oversee daily field activities across multiple project sites.
Manage revegetation, rehabilitation, and conservation projects from commencement through completion.
Allocate personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure efficient project delivery.
Monitor project progress against budgets, timelines, and performance targets.
Conduct site inspections and quality assurance assessments.
Team Leadership
Recruit, supervise, train, and mentor field staff and team leaders.
Foster a positive, safety-focused, and environmentally responsible workplace culture.
Manage workforce scheduling and resource allocation in collaboration with other managers.




Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development.
Conservation, Revegetation, Weed Control and Seed Collection
Oversee revegetation projects and maintenance programs.
Manage manual and chemical weed control, pest management, and invasive species programs.
Working closely with the Provenance & Seed Manager, coordinate licensed native seed collection.
Coordinate habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement activities, ensuring appropriate plant species selection and site preparation methodologies.
Coordinate plant orders for revegetation projects, in liaison with nursery team.
Carry out soft and hard landscaping duties as required.
Assist with seed processing as required.
Perform monitoring using software such as ArcGIS (or similar) when requested.
Monitor vegetation establishment success and implement corrective actions where required.
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety legislation and company policies.
Conduct risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and safety audits.
Maintain environmental compliance with permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Update Safety Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
Client and Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary contact for clients, landowners, government agencies, and contractors.
Prepare initial quotes and issue invoices upon job completion.
Participate in project meetings and provide technical advice.
Maintain accurate records, maps, and project documentation.
Prepare reports on progress, environmental outcomes and project performance and any other reporting to meet contractual obligations.
Support business development and tender preparation activities.
Resource Management
Manage tools, equipment and materials, ensuring proper maintenance and inventory control.
Collaborate with safety representatives and/or managers and ensure relevant Safety Operating Procedures are followed.
Keep accurate logbooks and keep vehicles clean, refuelled and report any vehicle or trailer maintenance issues.
Coordinate procurement of materials and supplies.
Nursery Support and Stock Control
Undertake nursery production tasks on site as required.
Assist in the identification of pests, disease and weeds and undertake chemical and manual weed control within the nursery.




Provide customer service and nursery support during the May Native Plant Subsidy Schemes, in partnership with local councils.
Participation in APACE Sustainability
Follow and adhere to health, safety and wellbeing procedures.
Actively contribute to APACE WA's strategic goals and organisational culture.
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions and evaluations.
Maintain industry networks and remain current with accreditation and compliance standards.

Qualifications and Experience
Certification or qualifications in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
Minimum 2 years' experience managing conservation, revegetation, or environmental field operations.
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
Robust knowledge of native vegetation, ecological restoration, and land management practices.
Experience with health and safety management systems.
In depth knowledge of flora of the Swan Coastal Plain and Darling Scarp.
Current manual driver's licence and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle, and reverse a trailer.
Ability to operate and maintain tools and machinery used in revegetation services.
Physically fit and capable of demanding outdoor work in different weather conditions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database systems (e.g. Xero, Evergreen Connect, GIS mapping).
Desirable Criteria
Relevant chemical handling experience and/or certification (or willingness to obtain), including the following units:
o AHCPMG301 - Control Weeds.
o AHCCHM307 - Prepare and Apply Chemicals to Control Pests, Weeds and Diseases.
o AHCCHM304 - Transport, Handle and Store Chemicals
(These units are typically included in Certificate III qualifications in Horticulture, Conservation & Ecosystem Management, Pest Management or Weed Management.).
Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
Experience and practical knowledge of best practice WA native seed collection, processing & storage techniques.
General knowledge of hygiene protocols when working with Phytophthora Dieback and/or holds a valid Green Card.
