Library Band 5A $***** per hour, plus 25% casual loading, plus superannuation
Location: Working across all 8 sites as required
Kingston Libraries is part of the Arts, Events & Libraries department in the City of Kingston. The library service spans 80+ staff, 8 branches, 376 hours of weekly service delivery, a million annual loans, over 2,000 programs/events and 400,000 visitors annually.
Kingston Libraries operates eight public library branches, with major sites at Chelsea, Cheltenham, and Parkdale, and minor sites at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, Patterson Lakes and Westall.
About The Role
Kingston City Council is seeking qualified librarians to join the Kingston Libraries team in a casual capacity. If you are a positive, self-motivated librarian with a strong customer focus and you enjoy working with people in a busy customer service environment, this is an ideal opportunity. You will have exceptional interpersonal skills, and a passion to be part of a community focused library service. This role works across all 8 library sites, including weekdays, evenings and weekends. You may be required to move from site to site during shifts. There are no guaranteed hours of work with this role. High levels of availability and flexibility are an advantage (particularly Mondays and Tuesdays). Current graduates are welcome to apply.
What You'll Deliver
Represent Kingston Libraries as the face of our library service and perform duties in a manner that exceeds expectations of both customers and the team
Perform customer service duties including reader advisory, digital literacy, technology support, collection management and program delivery in a busy and diverse public library service
Supervise and guide staff as 'Senior on Duty', including being the point of escalation as required
Undertake rostered customer service shifts in a team environment across all library sites, including weekdays, weekends and evenings
Actively promote and support services, events and programs that contribute to literacy and digital literacy development, and social connection across the library service
Your Skills And Experience
A tertiary qualification in library and information studies (making you eligible for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association) – Masters/Degree/Graduate Diploma
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
Demonstrated skills in supporting reader advisory and digital literacy
Confidence to use and explore a variety of technology in the library
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
Experience in delivering or facilitating programs and activities for community members
Knowledge and experience of working in a team
The ability to lead and positively influence customers and staff
A positive, enthusiastic and resilient attitude for working with diverse customers and staff in a front-facing team environment
The ability to efficiently move between sites as required
