About Strategic HR Australia
At Strategic HR Australia, we partner with business owners to build workplaces that do the right thing — legally, practically, and for the people involved. We provide HR support that is clear, commercial, and genuinely useful — not templated, not bureaucratic, not vague.
We are a small, high-standards consulting business. That means the work is varied, the pace is real, and the quality bar is non-negotiable — but so is our commitment to developing the people on our team.
The Role
This is a consulting HR role where you will advise business owners across a wide range of industries on employment matters, compliance, documentation, and workplace issues. You will work across the full employee lifecycle — from contracts and onboarding through to performance, misconduct, and separations.
We are looking for someone who is not necessarily the finished product, but who has the foundations, the mindset, and the drive to become an outstanding HR Advisor. If you are precise, professional, curious, and genuinely want to learn how to give high-quality HR advice — we want to hear from you.
You will be supported, coached, and held to a high standard. In return, you will grow faster than you would in most HR roles.
What You'll Be Doing
Advisory —
Providing clear, practical HR advice across the full employee lifecycle, including performance management, misconduct, grievances, and restructures.
Research —
Independently investigating employment law, interpret modern awards, and relevant guidance to ensure advice is accurate and defensible.
Documentation & Compliance —
Drafting and reviewing contracts, policies, letters, reports and procedural documents that are legally sound, tailored to the client, practical to use, and presented to a consistently high professional standard using strong Microsoft Word formatting, layout, and document management skills.
Legislation Monitoring —
Staying across legislative changes and communicating clearly to clients on what those changes mean for them.
Quality & Standards —
Delivering work that is accurate, consistent, and professional — every time, even when things are busy or priorities shift.
Client Management —
Building trust with clients through reliable follow-through, clear communication,
and sound qualified judgement.
Commercial Contribution —
Managing your time responsibly in a fee-for-service environment, with a target of 75% billable utilisation, and contributing ideas that improve how we work.
What We're Looking For
More than a checklist, we are hiring for character, capability, and coachability. The right person will bring:
Precision & Quality —
You care whether something is right, not just done. Attention to detail is a genuine strength, not a checkbox.
Adaptability —
You can shift priorities mid-morning without losing your composure or letting things slip through the cracks.
Coachability —
You hear feedback and act on it. You are open to guidance and see it as an investment in your growth, not a criticism.
Professional Maturity —
You communicate confidently, represent yourself well with clients, and understand what it means to be trusted with sensitive matters.
Entrepreneurial Mindset —
You look for better ways to do things, take ownership without being asked, and think about outcomes, not just tasks.
Genuine Curiosity —
You want to understand why the law says what it says, not just what it says. You follow a thread until it makes sense.

Our Recruitment Process
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete the
Predictive Index Assessment Set
as part of our process. This helps us understand how you approach problems, process complex information, and handle pace — all of which matter in this role.
There are no tricks. We simply want to ensure the role is the right fit for you, as much as for us.
To Apply
Please submit your resume and a cover letter of
no more than one page
addressing the following three points:
A brief summary of your HR experience and the types of matters you have been involved in.
An example of when you had to research or interpret employment law, a modern award, or a policy to reach a sound conclusion — what did you do, and what was the outcome?
What appeals to you about a consulting-style HR role, and what specifically draws you to Strategic HR Australia?
Please write clearly and concisely. A well-structured, precise cover letter is itself part of the assessment.
Applications that do not address the above points may not be considered.
