About the Role
As a Business Systems Accountant, you will bridge the gap between finance, technology, and business operations. You will ensure Council's financial systems support robust management accounting practices, including budgeting, forecasting, cost centre reporting, and performance analysis. Through continuous system improvement and stakeholder collaboration, you will help deliver reliable financial information, efficient processes, and greater organisational insight to support informed decision-making.
Reporting to the Team Leader – Finance Business Partners the core responsibilities include:
Financial Systems Management
Maintain and optimise Council's financial management systems (e.g. TechnologyOne) to support budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and performance analysis, ensuring system integrity, reliable financial data, and alignment with business and stakeholder requirements.
Process Improvement & Automation
Provide expert advice and support to identify, design, and implement process improvements and automation opportunities including managing updates and upgrades and new features to enhance efficiency, data accuracy, and user experience across finance functions.
Data Integrity & Reporting
Develop reports to enable the Finance Business Partner team to deliver data needs to the organisation, with the aim to improve self-service across finance and non-finance users. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, including chart of accounts and system configurations, while supporting the delivery of timely and insightful financial and management reports.
Stakeholder Support & Training
Act as the key link between Finance and other technology leads and provide expert system support, training, and guidance to finance and non-finance users, translating business requirements into practical system solutions and improving overall capability.
About You
Education & Experience
– Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline,
with demonstrated experience in financial systems administration (preferably within a local government or public sector environment). CPA/CA qualification or working towards is desirable.
Written & Oral Communicatio
n – Robust communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, user-friendly guidance, and effectively engage with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
Technical & Systems Expertise
– Experience with ERP systems (ideally TechnologyOne), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with reporting. Proven ability in system configuration, report development, and process mapping.
Analytical & Problem Solving
– Well-developed analytical skills with a strong attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose issues, interpret business needs, and deliver practical, efficient solutions.
