is seeking a compassionate, patient and emotionally intelligent
Support Worker
to support a
16-year-old autistic young woman
living in the Morley area. Due to
participant preference
and the nature of the supports,
a female worker
is required for this role.
This is not a traditional support worker role. We are looking for someone who understands that meaningful support begins with trust, consistency and genuine connection.
About the Participant
The young person we support is a creative and thoughtful teenager who enjoys:
Drawing and creative activities
Music
Technology and gaming
Quiet environments
Spending time with family
She experiences Autism Spectrum Disorder, social anxiety and selective mutism, and can be very quiet and withdrawn around unfamiliar people. She has low confidence and self-esteem and would benefit from support to gradually engage more in her community, explore her interests, develop independence and experience enjoyable activities outside the home.
About the Role
A key focus of this role will be establishing a genuine, trusting relationship that supports confidence, resilience and positive community participation.
You will support the participant to:
Build confidence and self-esteem
Develop a positive relationship with a trusted support person outside her family
Explore interests, hobbies and new experiences
Access her community safely and confidently
Increase social confidence at her own pace
Develop greater independence in everyday activities
Learn and practise emotional regulation strategies
Participate in meaningful and enjoyable activities
Gradually broaden her experiences and engagement with the community
Have fun while working towards her goals and increased independence
Activities may include:
Creative activities and art-based outings
Music-related interests
Cafés and community outings
Shopping
Libraries
Exploring new hobbies
Local community events
Other activities identified collaboratively with the participant and family
The role will primarily involve community-based supports on weekdays.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Calm, patient and emotionally regulated
Warm, kind and approachable
Able to build trust gradually and respectfully
Comfortable supporting a young person who may communicate very little initially
Skilled at connecting with teenagers who are socially anxious or withdrawn
Creative and able to identify activities aligned with a young person's interests and strengths
Able to encourage participation without pressure
Reliable, consistent and professional
Passionate about supporting young people to build confidence and independence
Committed to a strengths-based and neuroaffirming approach
Essential Requirements
NDIS Worker Screening Check
Working with Children Check
Current Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle
NDIS Worker Orientation Module
Strong professional boundaries
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Highly Desirable
Experience supporting autistic teenagers or young adults
Understanding of neuroaffirming practice
Experience supporting social anxiety or selective mutism
Experience supporting emotional regulation and confidence building
Qualifications or experience in Disability Support, Youth Work, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Allied Health Assistance or related fields
Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies
