PRIMARY DETAIL - Salary package: $56,275 per annum (Level A.6 – part time, 17.5 hours) – (FTE = $112,550) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading - Appointment type: Part-time, 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours), fixed-term role until June **** - Macquarie University Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to a government-funded research project focused on the development and application of recycled and waste-derived materials for advanced engineering systems. The role will emphasise computational modelling, simulation, and data-driven approaches to understand and optimise material and system performance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and apply computational models (e.g., FEA, COMSOL, ANSYS) to evaluate material and system behaviour under operating conditions.
Analyse thermo-mechanical performance of materials incorporating recycled and waste-derived components.
Support the integration of simulation results with experimental data for validation purposes.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across materials, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
Conduct laboratory experiments and support prototype development, contributing to system-level performance evaluation and validation.
Lead the verification and validation of system and structural performance in line with design and modelling requirements.
Collaborate with the project team and industry partners to develop and implement an integrated testing plan for the system.
Document experimental methods, results, and findings in progress/ technical reports.
Participate in prototype development and contribute to lab trials, deployment planning, and field validation phases.
Ensure all activities comply with regulatory and safety standards relevant to transport infrastructure.
Contribute to the preparation of publications, presentations, and final project reports.
Essential
A PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Robust experience in computational mechanics and simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, Abaqus).
Experience in thermo-mechanical or multi-physics modelling.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent laboratory-based research and interpret technical data.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience preparing technical reports and publications.
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams.
