About the Role
The Mornington Peninsula Shire's Planning Scheme is one of the most challenging and comprehensive planning schemes in Victoria. Within a changing and dynamic planning framework, robust economic growth and development, and a highly participatory community, the planning role requires balancing competing objectives to achieve quality land use and development outcomes. The position is responsible for providing and facilitating a high-quality service in relation to the Planning and Environment Act and Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme and achieving performance standards as required by the Statutory Planning unit.
Reporting to the Team Leader - Statutory Planning, the core responsibilities include:
Undertake relevant processes and procedures in accordance with council's legislative requirements.




Administer the planning scheme.
Engage and communicate with the community and provide advice through the course of the planning process.
Liaise with external referral authorities and internal referral units throughout the processing of planning applications.
Maintain and record clear concise meeting notes to be kept on council's corporate record keeping system.
About You
Undergraduate degree in town planning or a related discipline (e.g. environmental science, urban design, land surveying, architecture, etc.).
Experience in a planning related field preferred.
Knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act ****, Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme, the Subdivision Act ****, and other relevant Acts and Regulations, together with State and Local Planning policies.
A thorough understanding of council's legislative requirements.
An understanding of relevant policies, regulations and precedents - Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
A sound understanding of the Shire strategic plan, the community plan and council's organisational goals.
