Make a meaningful difference when it matters most. As the After Hours Nurse Unit Manager (NUM1), you will provide leadership and support across Mental Health Services during evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays, ensuring consumers receive safe, responsive and recovery-oriented care outside standard business hours.
Lead and support dedicated multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality mental health care and positive consumer outcomes across a range of inpatient and community settings.
Play a key role in service coordination and clinical leadership, helping to ensure timely decision-making and continuity of care when senior operational support is limited.
Contribute to a safe, supportive and recovery-focused environment for consumers, carers and staff during after-hours periods.
Develop your leadership skills within a large and diverse Mental Health Service, working collaboratively with managers, clinicians and key stakeholders across the district.
Be part of a committed Mental Health Services team that values compassion, inclusion, professional development and continuous improvement in the delivery of person-centred care.
Are You the Right Fit?
Highly Desirable Experience Includes
Previous NUM, or Team Manager role
Acting AH NUM experience.
Strong communication skills
Staffing and Rostering management
Participation in hospital-wide operations or patient flow committees.
Quality improvement and clinical governance experience.
Understanding of KPIs such as:
Length of Stay (LOS)




Discharge by Midday
Bed occupancy
Incident management
Restrictive practices
Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience or a combination of study and experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
Demonstrated senior nursing experience with experience in leading staff and managing services in a relevant setting.
Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit are managed to provide safe, compassionate, quality care that is culturally responsive.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex and deteriorating consumers.
Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and manage conflicts and performance issues when they arise.
