Our client is seeking a Japanese Speaking Researcher to join their team. This position is well suited to individuals who are passionate about research and have an interest in political, economic, and geopolitical developments across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
Key responsibilities will include:
Conduct research on political, economic, and geopolitical developments, as well as developments in the critical minerals, mining, energy (natural gas, coal, CCS), infrastructure (power and utilities, data centres, and social infrastructure), and other sectors (food and agribusiness).
Attend external seminars, conferences, and meetings, and prepare summaries and reports of key discussions.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with external experts, including think tanks and research institutions.
Coordinate with outsourced research providers and review the quality and accuracy of deliverables.
Undertake business travel within Australia, Pacific Island countries, and Japan, and prepare reports on findings and activities.
Liaise and coordinate with Head Office regarding research and intelligence‐gathering activities.
Perform other ad hoc duties as required.




In order to be considered for this role you will have the following key attributes, skills and strengths:
Previous experience in a research‐related role will be highly regarded, although not essential.
Advanced Japanese language skills are required. JLPT N1 holders are encouraged to apply.
A solid understanding of Australia's political, economic, and industrial landscape, as well as a strong interest in Japan's engagement with Oceania, particularly in the context of Australia–Japan relations.
Expertise or professional networks in any relevant field developed through previous career experience will be viewed favorably and considered a robust advantage.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and factual integrity.
Ability to travel occasionally for business purposes.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
A collaborative and team‐oriented approach.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
