We're seeking an experienced Cloud Data Engineer for an initial 6-month contract supporting the design and implementation of enterprise data engineering solutions, cloud platforms, and production-ready data pipelines.
Hybrid working arrangement
Occasional flexibility required for regional meetings outside standard Perth business hours
About the Role
This is a hands-on Cloud Data Engineering role focused on developing scalable data pipelines, modernising cloud data platforms and contributing to the design of production-ready data solutions.
You will work within a collaborative digital and data team alongside Data SMEs, Analysts, Cloud Architects, Developers and business stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring strong Databricks, ETL, cloud platform and programming experience, with the ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
Contribute to the design and engineering of end-to-end, production-ready data solutions
Develop, deploy and maintain scalable cloud data pipelines
Assist with pipeline architecture and solution design
Design and implement ETL and ELT processes across multiple data sources
Support data preparation, transformation, validation and integration activities
Contribute to data governance decisions covering data quality, sources, standards and tools
Develop and improve cloud data platforms, engineering practices and automation tools
Identify technical blockers, delivery risks and opportunities for improvement
Support data warehousing and Databricks Lakehouse solutions
Implement infrastructure and workflow automation using tools such as Terraform and Apache Airflow
Apply CI/CD, Git-based version control and automated deployment practices
Monitor cloud data platforms, analyse logs and troubleshoot performance or pipeline issues
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, demonstrations and continuous improvement activities
Collaborate with regional teams and attend occasional meetings outside standard Perth working hours
Essential Skills and Experience
Solid commercial experience as a Cloud Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer
Strong hands‐on experience with Databricks and Lakehouse architecture
Experience designing and implementing ETL or ELT pipelines in cloud environments
Strong programming capability in Python, Scala or Java
Advanced SQL skills and experience working with relational databases
Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform
Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery or Databricks Lakehouse
Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Apache NiFi, Luigi or similar
Understanding of database deployment and change-management tools such as Liquibase
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git, configuration management and deployment automation
Experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor or Google Cloud Monitoring
Understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, DNS, security groups and load balancers
Experience working within Agile delivery environments using Jira, Confluence, Atlassian tools or Azure DevOps
Google Professional Data Engineer certification
Experience with Apache Beam, Talend, Informatica or custom ETL frameworks
Experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, Cassandra or Redis
Exposure to Ansible, Chef or Puppet
Experience delivering enterprise data platforms within mining, resources, exploration or complex global organisations
Relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science, engineering, data science or a related discipline
