is a premium economy hotel located in Sydney's vibrant business, retail, and entertainment precinct. The hotel features 91 well-appointed guest rooms designed to accommodate both business and leisure travellers seeking comfortable and affordable accommodation in a central location. Guests can enjoy Lot 51 Bar and a fully equipped gym, providing all the essentials for a convenient and memorable city stay.
Novotel Newcastle Beach
is located in Newcastle's iconic East End, just a short walk to Newcastle Beach and five minutes from the city centre. The hotel is an ideal choice for business or leisure travellers, with cafés, bars, restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and scenic coastal walks all within easy reach.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded
Financial Controller
to lead the Finance function across
Novotel Newcastle Beach
and
ibis Sydney Barangaroo
. This pivotal HUB role is responsible for driving financial performance, ensuring robust governance and compliance, and partnering with the Hotel Leadership Teams to support strategic decision-making and long-term growth.
About the Role
As Financial Controller, you will oversee the full financial operations of both hotels, working closely with each property to optimise performance and maximise margins. You will provide explicit financial direction, maintain robust internal controls, and translate financial data into actionable commercial insights.
You will act as a trusted business partner to the General Managers, Owner,
Regional Finance teams, and Department Heads, contributing to operational efficiency, profitability, and strategic planning.
This role requires strong leadership, exceptional financial acumen, and the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple properties.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Hotel Finance Department across both properties, providing direction and mentorship
Prepare and deliver budgets, forecasts, and financial reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
Oversee all financial operations, including AP, AR, Payroll, Cashiering, and cash flow management
Ensure compliance with Accor policies, USALI standards, and all local legislative and statutory requirements
Manage statutory reporting, including BAS, Payroll Tax, FBT, WorkCover, and annual audits
Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and maximise departmental profitability
Provide strategic financial analysis to support operational and commercial decision-making
Identify benchmarking opportunities and drive efficiencies, uncovering current revenue or margin growth initiatives
Partner with Department Heads to improve financial performance and cost management
Qualifications
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring proven experience, strong commercial capability, and a collaborative leadership style.
Previous experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within the hotel industry, with demonstrated leadership capability to develop and mentor a finance team
Strong knowledge of financial accounting standards, taxation, superannuation,
National Employment Standards, and statutory compliance requirements
Proficiency in hospitality systems, including Sun Systems, Payroll systems, PurchasePlus, and Opera Cloud PMS (advantageous)
Proven ability to create efficiencies across financial processes, procedures, and internal controls
Strong organisational skills, excellent time management, and high attention to detail
Experience managing high-volume workloads and meeting strict deadlines
Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen, capable of translating financial data into actionable insights
Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Strong business partnering capability, with the ability to effectively support and influence teams across two hotels
Professional accounting qualifications or certifications such as CPA or ICA are preferred
