Primary Purpose
We're seeking a
Data Scientist
(entry level role) to join our data science team and help improving outcomes for our members and the business. In this role, you'll work with advanced data analysis, machine learning, and emerging AI technologies including Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI agents to understand member behaviour, identify trends, and support data-informed recommendations across the organization.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Data Science & Advanced
Data Analysis
Contribute to the development and maintenance of advanced analytical assets, machine learning models, and AI solutions
Support building and refining data mining solutions, predictive models, and analytical frameworks
Develop customer segmentation models and value measurement analyses
Support data science strategy design and implementation
Explore and implement LLM-based solutions and Generative AI agents to enhance business processes
Business Impact
Analyse key business behaviours including member engagement, retention patterns, and market dynamics
Identify opportunities through statistical modelling, segmentation, and data-informed analysis
Translate complex business problems into actionable analytical solutions
Support marketing and retention strategies with data-informed insights and forecasts
Collaboration & Communication
Partner closely with business stakeholders across the organization
Present findings clearly to non-technical audiences
Collaborate with team members on analytical and modelling projects
Contribute to strategic thinking around future modelling capabilities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, AI/ML, or related field
Required experience, understanding or credentials including
:
Experience of building AI and Machine learning models in the business context
Proficiency in SQL, Python
Familiarity with or eagerness to learn LLM frameworks and Generative AI technologies
Enthusiasm for using data and modelling techniques to solve complex business problems
Understanding of stakeholder management and translating business needs into analytical or modelling solutions
Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in dynamic environments
Ability to work both on your own and collaboratively
Curious and motivated with genuine enthusiasm for learning and understanding how data tells stories
Adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities
Nice to Have
Experience or understanding of superannuation, financial services, or insurance industries
Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Azure OpenAI) and prompt engineering
Experience with modern cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS Redshift, EC2, S3)
Knowledge of modern ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face)
Experience building models on Dataiku
Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD practices
Experience with feature engineering using DBT
Knowledge of MLOps practices, model deployment, and monitoring
