Role Purpose:
The Estimator / Cost Controller is a combined role responsible for preparing accurate project estimates and tenders and for controlling project costs across the Red Invest Group of Companies.
Reporting to the Group Commercial Manager, the role supports the delivery of profitable, well-priced work through competitive, risk-aware estimating at the bid stage and disciplined cost control throughout project delivery.
While the role supports commercial activity across the Red Invest Group, it is primarily dedicated to the Group's construction business, Ironstone Australia.
Working closely with the Group Commercial Manager, project managers and operational leaders, the role prepares pricing, tracks budgets, forecasts and variations, supports cashflow management, and provides the accurate commercial data that underpins project and Group reporting.




A key early priority for the role is to identify, review and shortlist fit-for-purpose construction management software and then champion its implementation and adoption across the Group.
It suits a detail-focused commercial professional developing their capability across both estimating and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:

Estimating & Tendering:
Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for client and project opportunities across the Group.
Review drawings, specifications and scope documents to establish quantities and pricing requirements.
Obtain, analyse and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Prepare tender pricing and procurement risk assessments, pricing qualifications and clarifications.
Maintain estimating rates, templates and historical cost data.
Prepare bid review documents for tender submissions.
On successful award, prepare Procurement Schedule with budgets and date schedule
Cost Control:
Track project costs, budgets and commitments against approved forecasts.
Monitor contract margins, variations and cashflow.
Together with the Project teams, prepare cost-to-complete estimates and monthly project cost reports.
Prepare monthly client claims and review subcontractor claims.




Apply cost control measures and identify opportunities to optimise profitability.
Reporting & Systems:
Support project forecasts and monthly reporting to the Group Commercial Manager.
Contribute to standardising estimating and cost-control templates and tools.
Construction Management Software:
Lead the review and shortlisting of construction management software options, assessing fit for purpose against the Group's estimating, cost-control and project-delivery needs.
Evaluate potential platforms on functionality, integration, cost and scalability, and recommend a preferred solution.
Champion implementation of the selected system across the Group, including configuration, data migration, rollout and user adoption.
Develop and deliver training and support materials, and drive ongoing use and continuous improvement of the system.
Act as the internal system owner and primary point of contact with the software vendor.
Commercial Support:
Assist with compiling cost information for variation submissions.
Ensure estimating and cost-control activities align with the Group's ISO-certified systems.
Maintain a monthly project reporting calendar for all projects
Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams on estimating and cost matters.
Build and maintain strong working relationships.
Support clear communication and timely resolution of commercial queries.
