We work hard and take our results seriously, but we don't do "corporate theatre."About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Accounts Manager to take ownership of the finance function across the firm.
Reporting to the Board, and with support from our Finance Manager as needed, you will run the daily financial operations of the business including: trust account compliance, aged receivables and payables, monthly billing, account reconciliations, payroll and monthly board reporting.This position is ideal for someone who can not only undertake data entry but understands and can explain the numbers you're working with.
It will suit someone who is confident working autonomously and is self motivated.
You'll take pride in keeping things accurate and organised, from clean reconciliations and timely reporting through to efficient monthly billing.This position is advertised in the range of 0.6 to 1.0 FTE.
The firm will shape the workload around the right person.
If you want school hours, a four-day week, or a full-time load with broader commercial scope, tell us in your application, we would rather find the right person and build the role around them.The day-to-dayBilling and accounts receivable: preparing and issuing monthly invoices (around 200 per month), processing disbursements, managing debtor queries and collections, sending statements and weekly reporting of debtor status to the Partners.Trust accounting:
reconciling and ensuring compliance of the firm's trust account.Reconciliations: general bank account and credit card reconciliations in ActionstepAccounts payable: process and pay supplier invoices, handle creditor enquiries, staff expense claims and reimbursements.Payroll: fortnightly payroll, including STP reporting and PayDay Superannuation.Financial reporting: monthly reporting including cashflow, sales analysis, P&L;, staff productivity and trend reporting for Board review.Insurance and practising certificates: maintaining the firm's professional liability insurance, track renewal and compliance of practising certificates and professional indemnity cover for all legal practitioners.Ad hoc admin and finance administration.What we are looking forSubstantial experience in a bookkeeping, accounts or finance management role - at least 4 years.Strong command of the full accounting cycle: billing, AP, AR, reconciliations, and month-end processes.Payroll processing experience.Experience in legal practice management systems is highly regarded (experience with Actionstep preferred by not essential).
Legal trust accounting experience is a significant advantage; if you have the rest and not this, we will train you.Intermediate to advanced Excel.Genuinely strong attention to detail.The ability to work independently, set your own priorities and follow through without being chased.Clear, qualified communication with Directors, practitioners, clients and suppliers.Discretion - you will see everything!
