We are looking for an experienced and adaptable Communications Officer to join our dynamic media team within the department's Public Information and Corporate Affairs branch.
Our team delivers a diverse range of communications services that showcase the department's important work across the State and help connect people with WA's wildlife, national parks and conservation areas.
In this role, you will develop engaging content, support media relations, coordinate social media activities and contribute to strategic communications initiatives.
You will also play an significant role in delivering timely public safety information during department-managed incidents such as bushfires.
The role involves:
Generating positive media coverage of the department's achievements, managing reactive media enquiries and providing communications support for contentious and emerging issues.
Developing high-quality communications content across a range of platforms including media releases, social media and digital channels.
Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media representatives and partner organisations.
Creating and issuing community safety warnings during bushfires and other incidents managed by the department.




Participating in the branch's after-hours media roster (including weeknights and some weekends).
The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following communications environments: journalism or public relations or government communications or corporate communications.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure on diverse projects, set priorities and meet deadlines concurrently.
Demonstrated experience in understanding and managing contentious communications issues.
