The Opportunity:
We're seeking an experienced Painter-Blaster to join our team.
You'll work independently and alongside a skilled team across diverse industrial environments, dry docks, shipyards, and remote project sites.
Preparing surfaces and applying high performance protective coatings in accordance with project specifications and NACE standards.
Role Description:
As a Painter-Blaster, you will be responsible for preparing surfaces and applying protective coatings to structures and components in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
The role will require independent work across diverse industrial environments, including shipyards, offshore platforms, and remote project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Abrasive BlastingSet up and operate abrasive blasting equipment to remove rust, scale,



and coatings from structures and components.Perform regular equipment checks and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and dust suppression regulations across multiple industries.
Surface PreparationCarry out high-pressure washing, sanding, solvent wiping, and masking on tanks, hulls, decks, and other structural assets.Ensure all preparation meets NACE standards for coating readiness in shipyards, offshore facilities, and industrial sites.
Coating ApplicationApply epoxies, polyurethanes, and anti-fouling coatings using airless and conventional spray guns, brushes, or rollers.Follow manufacturer specifications and DFT (dry film thickness) guidelines to deliver high-quality finishes in harsh environments.
Safety ComplianceAdhere to strict safety protocols, including confined space entry, working at heights, and hazardous materials handling.Participate in JHAs and maintain a zero-harm work culture through consistent PPE use and risk awareness.
Independent WorkWork autonomously in varied settings including dry docks, shipyards, offshore platforms, and remote industrial sites.Manage daily tasks effectively while maintaining accurate QA/QC documentation for all surface prep and coating activities.




To Be Considered, You Must Hold:Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application, or a trade qualification in the painting industryOR at least 5 years' experience in industrial paintingWhite CardWorking at Heights certificationConfined Space Entry certificationElevated Work Platform (EWP) permit
Highly Desirable:Supervisory or coordination experienceExperience with robotic blasting on a variety of substratesUltra-High Pressure (UHP) hydro blasting experienceNACE Level 1 or 2 certificationResponsible Management of Hazardous Paints certificationAbility to perform and pass inspection and coating reports

Remuneration:$80,000 – $120,000 per annum (pro-rata, based on experience) Casual engagement with a genuine prospect to transition to full-time for the right person.
