We are seeking an experienced and collaborative library professional to establish and lead our newly created Library Operations business stream.

About this opportunity
This is more than an operational leadership role.
It is an opportunity to build the operational capability that underpins outstanding customer service across an entire regional library network.
Reporting to the Regional Librarian, you'll lead the newly established Library Operations business stream, providing leadership across collections, digital services, outreach, procurement, systems, operational procedures and business improvement.
Working in partnership with Branch Librarians, you'll ensure the operational services and resources that support frontline customer delivery continue to evolve while contributing to strategic planning and organisational improvement.




This role offers an unusually broad leadership opportunity—combining people leadership, operational management, project delivery, procurement, collection development, digital innovation and organisational improvement within one diverse portfolio.
Additionally, you'll also ...
• Provide leadership to teams responsible for Collections, Digital Services and Outreach, building capability and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Lead collection development and resource acquisition, ensuring collections remain contemporary, diverse and responsive to community needs.
• Develop operational procedures, service standards and business processes that support consistency across the library network.
• Lead projects and initiatives that enhance library services, systems and digital engagement.
• Monitor operational expenditure, coordinate workforce priorities and contribute to business planning and continuous improvement.
• Act as Regional Librarian for operational matters during planned and unplanned absences.
About you...
You're an experienced library qualified who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems and improving services.
You understand that exceptional customer experiences begin with strong operational foundations and you're equally comfortable leading people, influencing outcomes and translating strategic direction into practical action.
Most importantly, you're someone who is excited by the opportunity to build, improve and influence.
You'll also bring:
• Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Services (or equivalent) together with demonstrated leadership experience in a public library setting.
• Experience leading teams, developing capability, and creating a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
• Strong operational management skills, including procurement, budgeting, project delivery, and business improvement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of collection development, digital services, and contemporary public library operations.




• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to influence, collaborate and build trusted partnerships.
• A current Queensland Driver's License
• Must hold, or eligible to obtain, a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) prior to commencing employment.
