About the opportunity
Based on a 2:2 FIFO roster from Perth to Tom Price, Altrad is seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor with Cert 10 welding experience to support the delivery of works on a major remediation project.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will lead the safe and productive execution of welding and mechanical activities, ensuring all work is delivered to the highest safety, quality, and productivity standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role where your technical welding expertise will be critical in overseeing fabrication and welding scopes, mentoring trades, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and relevant Australian Standards.
Working closely with Construction, Maintenance, QA/QC, Planning and subcontractor teams, you'll play a key role in coordinating activities, resolving technical issues, and delivering successful project outcomes.
In this role, you will:
Supervise and coordinate daily welding and mechanical activities across the project
Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex welding scopes, ensuring compliance with project specifications and welding procedures
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards
Conduct inspections and monitor welding outputs to ensure workmanship and compliance requirements are met
Lead, mentor and develop a team of welders and trades assistants
Work closely with planners to coordinate and optimise work fronts and project schedules
Facilitate toolbox talks, safety interactions and promote a strong HSEQ culture
Liaise with QA/QC, engineering, subcontractors and client representatives to resolve technical and operational issues
Ensure welding equipment, consumables and materials are available and fit for purpose
Maintain accurate project documentation, reports and records in line with project and regulatory requirements
About you
You're an experienced Mechanical Supervisor with a strong background leading welding activities in mining, construction or heavy industrial environments.
You have extensive Cert 10 welding experience, a proven ability to lead high-performing teams, and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality outcomes.
You will bring:
Trade qualification (Cert III Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent)
Extensive Cert 10 welding experience, with a strong understanding of welding procedures, standards and quality requirements
Minimum 5+ years' experience supervising welding and mechanical works within mining, construction or heavy industry
Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, inspection requirements and Australian Standards
Demonstrated experience working with QA/QC processes, welding documentation and compliance requirements
Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, coach and develop site-based teams
A strong commitment to HSEQ and promoting a zero-harm culture
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across planning, engineering, QA and subcontractor teams
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment
Current Working at Heights, Confined Space and relevant High Risk Work Licences (or ability to obtain)
