Work type: Full-time
Classification: Developers/Programmers (Information & Communication Technology)

“To advance humanity – inspire curiosity.”

About us

Ozgene is a global biotechnology company operating in Australia, the USA and beyond. Guided by Lean principles, we empower our people to take ownership of their work, improve their processes and contribute ideas that make a meaningful difference.

Our software is central to our scientific and commercial operations, from order management and colony planning to shipping and customer-facing portals. We are a small team supporting a broad range of systems, so the work is varied, visible and directly contributes to how our business operates.

We pursue innovation through scientific expertise, continuous improvement and the use of emerging technologies and AI.

About the role

We are looking for a Graduate Software Developer to join our Perth team. You will contribute to real projects from the outset, supported by experienced developers, and gradually take ownership of more of our platform as your knowledge and confidence grow.

AI-assisted development is an important part of how we work, so we are looking for someone enthusiastic about using AI to build better software. You will also be expected to understand, review and thoroughly test AI-generated code before it is deployed. Previous experience with AI development tools is welcome but not essential; we will help you learn how to use them effectively and responsibly.

Why join us?

- See your code deployed to production, with support and review from experienced developers.

- Make a direct contribution to a global business, working closely with the people who use the systems you build.

- Develop practical experience using AI-assisted development as part of your everyday work.

- Grow your skills and responsibilities as we modernise our platforms and expand internationally.

- Work in a culture that encourages ownership,

curiosity and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

- Build and maintain web applications that support our scientific and commercial operations.

- Develop cloud-based and serverless services on AWS that connect our systems.

- Take features through design, development, testing and deployment, with support at each stage.

- Investigate and resolve issues across interconnected systems, considering how changes in one area may affect others.

- Work directly with software users to understand their needs and translate them into effective solutions.

- Use AI-assisted development tools daily while reviewing, testing and understanding the code before it is merged.

- Create and improve system documentation as your knowledge of the platform grows.

What we’re looking for

- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field—or equivalent practical experience you can demonstrate.

- Availability to work full-time.

- Experience building and completing a real project, whether at university, during an internship or independently.

- A sound understanding of JavaScript, REST APIs, SQL and Git.

- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and a desire to use these tools effectively. Previous experience is welcome but not required.

- The ability to approach a problem independently, develop a solution and ask for support when needed.

- A security-conscious approach to software development.

- Clear communication skills and an understanding that positive software solves business problems, not only technical ones.

Bonus skills and experience

- Exposure to AWS or Azure.

- Experience with Vue, React, Node.js or GraphQL.

- Experience with integrations, event-driven systems or process automation.

- Exposure to biotechnology, scientific operations or another data-intensive environment.

If you do not meet every requirement but believe you have the skills, curiosity and potential to succeed in the role, we would still like to hear from you.
