About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Cook - Childcare Centre to join our team at our Newport VIC 3015 location. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing and development of the children in our care. As Cook, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks that meet the dietary needs and preferences of all children at the centre, whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. This position is integral to our commitment to providing comprehensive childcare services that prioritise nutrition and wellness.

Key responsibilities

- Plan, prepare and cook nutritious, balanced meals and snacks that cater to the dietary requirements, allergies and preferences of all children at the centre

- Ensure all food preparation adheres strictly to food safety and hygiene standards, including proper storage, handling and preparation techniques

- Maintain accurate records of ingredients, stock levels and expiry dates, and manage inventory effectively





- Liaise with educators and management to understand individual child dietary requirements, allergies and cultural preferences

- Prepare meals that are developmentally appropriate and encourage positive eating habits and nutritional awareness

- Clean and maintain the kitchen, cooking equipment and food storage areas to the highest standards

- Support the centre's commitment to sustainability by minimising food waste where possible

- Comply with all relevant legislation, regulations and centre policies relating to food safety and childcare

- Communicate effectively with educators, families and management regarding dietary matters and nutritional planning

What we're looking for

- A relevant qualification in commercial cookery or food preparation or equivalent, demonstrated experience in a childcare or institutional food service workplace

- Knowledge of nutrition and an understanding of age-appropriate dietary requirements for young children

- Current Food Safety Supervisor or equivalent food safety certification

- A thorough understanding of allergen management and experience managing children's dietary requirements and restrictions

- Strong organisational and time management skills,



with the ability to plan and prepare meals efficiently for a large number of children

- Excellent hygiene and food safety practices, with meticulous attention to detail

- The ability to work independently and as part of a cooperative team

- A genuine passion for nutrition and commitment to promoting healthy eating in early childhood

- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)

- Relevant experience in meal planning and catering for diverse dietary needs is highly desirable
