We are hiring a Financial Accountant to strengthen our finance team and support the next phase of growth.
Role Overview
Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Accountant will take assist with RJ Living’s core finance processes. This is a hands-on role: you’ll prepare reports, build budgets and forecasts, and deliver analysis that supports decisions across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Monthly Reporting
- With support from the bookkeeper, prepare and deliver monthly management reports for the CFO.
- Partner with the CFO and department heads to analyse performance against budget and forecast.
- Improve reporting processes, templates, and dashboards.
- Assist with preparation of advisory board monthly pack
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with the annual budgeting process with the CFO and leadership team.
- Maintain rolling forecasts with scenario modelling to support decision-making.
- Provide variance analysis and recommendations for the CFO and leadership.
- Build and maintain robust three-way financial models (P&L;, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to forecast business performance and manage liquidity.
Data-Driven Projects
- Work with the CFO and teams across marketing, operations, and product to gather data and deliver analysis.
- Build financial models for investment cases, store performance, and category analysis.
- Develop dashboards and analytics in Power BI (or similar tools) to support a data-driven culture and provide real-time insights to leadership.
Controls & Compliance
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and obligations.
- Manage external audit requirements, working with the CFO and external accountants.
- Ensure accurate and timely BAS preparation and lodgement, with strong working knowledge of GST concepts (including input-taxed, GST-free, and mixed supplies relevant to retail/e-commerce).
- Manage Workcover registrations, remuneration declarations, and renewals across all applicable states (VIC, NSW, QLD).
- Oversee payroll tax registrations and monthly/annual filings across relevant states, monitoring grouping provisions and threshold obligations as the business expands.
- Ensure compliance with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting obligations, including finalisation and reconciliation with the ATO.
- Maintain oversight of other statutory and regulatory lodgements (e.g. FBT, PAYG withholding/instalments, ASIC company obligations) as required.
People, Payroll & Compliance
- Support the CEO & CFO in overseeing payroll, HR administration and employee compliance across the business.
- Act as the first point of contact for people-related compliance matters, providing guidance to managers on performance management, disciplinary issues, employee relations, terminations, remuneration matters and HR best practice, escalating complex matters to external advisers where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation,
Modern Awards, Fair Work requirements and internal company policies.
- Maintain accurate employee records, employment contracts and HR documentation, ensuring all compliance obligations are met.
- Act as system owner for Tanda, managing employee onboarding, award configuration, leave settings and ongoing system administration.
- Oversee the integration and reconciliation of payroll data between Tanda and Xero to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Maintain a strong understanding of Modern Award interpretation, including penalty rates, overtime, allowances and other pay conditions, ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Partner with managers to resolve payroll and workforce administration queries while continuously improving payroll, rostering and timesheet processes.
- Support annual remuneration reviews, payroll reconciliations, statutory reporting and other people-related finance processes.
Skills & Experience
- CA/CPA qualified with 5+ years’ experience.
- Track record in reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Strong background in three-way financial modelling.
- Background in Big 4 or mid-tier accounting firms preferred.
- Solid Excel and modelling skills; Power BI or similar BI/data analytics tool experience highly valued.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, able to turn data into insights.
- Retail, consumer, or e-commerce experience a bonus.
- Clear communicator, able to work across teams and support the CFO.
