The Grounds and Maintenance Employee plays an important role in creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-presented school environment that supports high-quality teaching, learning and community engagement. Working collaboratively with school leadership and staff, the role is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair and presentation of the school's buildings, grounds, gardens and outdoor learning spaces.
The successful employee will undertake a broad range of maintenance tasks, ensure facilities remain safe and compliant, and contribute to the development of attractive and functional learning environments.
Contribute to the effective and efficient maintenance pertaining to the schools sites grounds by:
· mowing and maintenance of lawns and the oval as required
· coordinate and ensure preparation of sports fields including layout and line marking
· manage effective and efficient irrigation and watering systems on both campuses
· coordinate and ensure basic garden maintenance as required. eg pruning, weeding spraying and fertilising
· ensuring management of safe disposal of waste on a daily basis and during holiday period
· set up systems and routines to ensure all machinery on both campuses is maintained and in working order at all times
Contribute to the effective and efficient maintenance of facilities by:
· work collaboratively with the Business Manager on the development, implementation, management and maintenance of facilities systems
· proactively monitoring and coordinating repair and maintenance throughout the school including painting, minor construction and repair work around the school ensuring WHS standards are maintained
· liaising when required with contract maintenance workers with regards to preventative and general maintenance tasks around the school as required
· record management of preventative and general maintenance work via One Note Portal
· ensuring that equipment and machinery are maintained in good working order and within safety guidelines •assisting to procure, set up, operate and maintain complex machinery such as ride on mowers and tractors
· perform Work Health Safety inspections around the school and as around all areas around the school
· ensuring building and grounds security
· maintain cleanliness of work areas, yard and buildings, including graffiti control around school, and clearing blocked drains
· provide assistance and guidance within their level of expertise to other employees including daily unlocking and locking of school gates and occasional moving furniture and set up of flat packs.
Contribute to the schools culture by:
· engaging in programs with students.
Other tasks as directed by the principal or leadership by:
· Working with staff and students to meet relevant WHS requirements
· Delegate and assign tasks to second site groundsman
· Assisting the business manager to achieve facilities targets in relation to buildings and grounds
· Contributing to school events by ensuring events are setup and dismantled in a appropriate time frame by liaising with relevant staff or outside organisations
· Using strong degree of initiative
Contribute to the care, general well-being and safety of all students by monitoring student behaviour and taking appropriate action in accordance with child protection requirements as described in the departmental policies and procedures.
