Role Description This full-time Automotive Engine Machinist role at Lonsdale Engine Worx is an in office position based in the Greater Adelaide Area.
The Automotive Engine Machinist is responsible for inspecting, measuring, and machining engine components such as blocks, heads, crankshafts, and connecting rods to precise specifications.
Day-to-day tasks include operating and maintaining machining equipment (e.g., boring machines, milling machines, surface grinders, honing equipment), performing engine reconditioning and assembly, and verifying tolerances and clearances using appropriate measuring tools.
The role involves diagnosing engine wear or damage, recommending suitable repair or machining processes, and collaborating with technicians to ensure quality outcomes and timely delivery.
The Automotive Engine Machinist also follows safety procedures, keeps accurate records of work performed, and helps maintain a clean, organized workshop environment.
Qualifications
Technical engine machining skills, including experience with boring, honing, milling, grinding,



and precision engine assembly.Proficiency in using measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision instruments to verify tolerances.Solid mechanical aptitude and understanding of internal combustion engines, engine components, and reconditioning processes.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturer documentation.Commitment to workplace safety, proper handling of tools and equipment, and adherence to workshop procedures.Positive problem-solving skills and attention to detail for diagnosing issues and ensuring high-quality workmanship.Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members and service staff.Previous experience as an automotive machinist, engine reconditioner, or similar trade role; relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship completion is highly beneficial.Reliable, punctual, and able to manage workload in a busy workshop environment.
