Overview

Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. It is the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare-eligible tests. The team at NTPS comprises a large multidisciplinary group including scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and pathologists.

Role

This 0.8 FTE position is based at Launceston General Hospital (LGH), the major referral hospital for Northern Tasmania.

Appointment Details

Permanent, part time day-worker position, up to 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant.

Salary & Benefits

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1-3 salary range $222,789 – $319,701 per annum, pro-rated, plus 12% superannuation and salary packaging.



Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025.

- Salary packaging options: Living expenses up to $9,010 and meals & entertainment up to $2,650 per year.
- Motor vehicle allowance: Up to $28,786 per annum, pro-rated.
- Private Practice Scheme: 35% participation or an allowance in lieu, subject to approval.
- Continuing Career development allowance: $17,483 per annum, pro-rated.
- Travel & relocation assistance: Up to $15,000 for overseas, up to $10,000 for interstate applicants.

- Fitness Passport: 40+ facilities across Tasmania for $14.50 per week per person or $28.05 for a family.

Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must meet essential criteria:

- Holds specialist registration; or
- Registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway; or
- Registered Medical Practitioner who is an IMG with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and sufficient experience.

Desirable criteria:

- Experience in anatomical, cytopathology and chemical pathology.
- Successful completion of the Australasian or equivalent overseas training program in pathology.
