GAC is seeking an experienced and independent Director to join its Board and contribute to the strategic leadership, governance, and ongoing success of the organisation.
As an Indigenous corporation, GAC is committed to strong governance, accountability, and positive outcomes for the communities and stakeholders it serves. We are seeking an individual who can provide independent oversight, sound judgement, and valuable professional expertise at Board level.
About the Role
As an Independent Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members to:
- Provide strategic direction and governance oversight
- Monitor organisational performance and risk management
- Support effective decision-making and accountability
- Contribute skills, experience, and independent judgement to Board deliberations
- Uphold the highest standards of corporate and Indigenous governance
Applicants must:
- Hold a current Director Identification Number (Director ID)
- Have previous experience as a Director, Board Member, or Committee Member
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of governance principles and directors' responsibilities
- Be able to think strategically and contribute independently
- Possess robust communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Highly Regarded
Experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Indigenous governance and community-controlled organisations
- Finance, accounting, or audit
- Strategic planning and organisational development
- Legal, compliance, or regulatory matters
- Government, community, or commercial sectors
Knowledge of the requirements of the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) will be viewed favourably.
Time Commitment
- Approximately one half-day Board meeting per month
- Meetings are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month
- Reasonable preparation and review of Board papers between meetings
