TAB Resources Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of our client, Mining3, to support the CATCH4 Program. The Mechanical Design Engineer will provide end-to-end mechanical engineering design capability to the CATCH4 Program, taking concepts through to fabrication-ready documentation. Working closely with internal technical leads, the role produces high-quality drawings, supports design reviews, and coordinates with external OEM partners, fabricators, and site personnel to ensure engineering intent is accurately translated into built hardware. The Mechanical Design Engineer will also support the operation of the pilot plant.

About CATCH4
The CATCH4 (Catalytic Oxidation of CH₄) Program is an industry-led R&D; initiative funded by Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA) and led by Mining3. Its goal is to develop, validate, and commercialise catalytic oxidiser technology capable of safely reducing methane emissions from underground mine ventilation air streams. The program aims to achieve full commercialisation by 2030. This is a technical role at the frontier of novel technology for the mining sector. The successful candidate will contribute to a purpose-driven program with real environmental significance.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Neerabup, WA on a contract until September 2027,
with the possibility of extension. You will report to the Program Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design & CAD - Develop 3D parametric models and 2D fabrication drawings for catalytic pilot unit components, structural supports, enclosures, ducting, pipework, and process equipment interfaces. Produce detailed general arrangement (GA) drawings, assembly drawings, part drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) to appropriate Australian and international standards. Maintain drawing registers and revision control in accordance with program documentation protocols. Design from concept through to construction-ready packages. Perform basic engineering calculations to validate design decisions and support approvals.
- Fabrication & Procurement Support - Prepare and issue RFQ packages to fabricators and equipment suppliers, including specifications, drawings, and material callouts. Review supplier and fabricator shop drawings and submittals. Support procurement of mechanical components, liaising with vendors on technical queries and material certifications.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Support Pilot Operation - Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fabrication contractors. Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and project meetings, preparing and presenting engineering deliverables to technical and non-technical audiences. Liaise with the Program Director to align design outputs with the program schedule. Support the operation of the pilot units.
- Documentation & Reporting - Assist in preparing internal and external technical reports, project submissions, and internal documentation.
Maintain accurate and well-structured engineering records across the project lifecycle. Contribute to lessons learned documentation and continuous improvement of design processes within the program.
- Compliance & Safety - Ensure all designs comply with applicable Australian Standards, WHS legislation, mining regulations, and project-specific requirements. Apply risk-based design thinking and incorporate engineering controls for mechanical hazards. Support preparation of design documentation required for regulatory approvals, equipment registration, or mine site acceptance.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- +5 years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on detailed design.
- Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software.
- Experience designing plant components.
- Sound understanding of engineering drawing standards, GD&T;, and fabrication processes (welding, machining, forming).
- Ability to work from concept-level briefs and first principles to develop engineering solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly to mixed audiences.
- Current Driver's Licence.
