Your New Role and Responsibilities

Application Support Engineer, you’ll join a team-oriented, technically curious team supporting and improving critical applications in a Linux‑based environment.
In this role, you’ll be actively involved in the day‑to‑day health, performance and improvement of applications, including:
- Providing Level 2/3 application and systems support in a Linux/Unix workplace, with a focus on proactive monitoring and performance management.
- Owning incidents end‑to‑end, from triage and investigation through to resolution and post‑incident review.
- Performing root cause analysis of application and system issues, working closely with ITSM service towers, developers and end users to implement sustainable fixes.
- Deploying software updates, patches and fixes in line with approved change, release and configuration management practices.
- Working across the development and support lifecycle,
collaborating with others to improve reliability, visibility and supportability of applications.
- Creating and maintaining clear operational and technical documentation to support ongoing operations and enable Level 1 Service Desk teams.
What You’ll Get Out Of The Role
- Structured learning and development, including project‑supported training such as:
- ITIL Foundations v5
- Elastic Search / Observability Engineering
- Dedicated learning time during work hours, actively encouraged and supported by the Team Lead.
- Exposure to modern tooling and open‑source technologies, with the opportunity to apply what you learn directly to real systems.
- The ability to make meaningful contributions while your security clearance is in progress, rather than waiting on the sidelines.
- Experience working in a team that values collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Career‑building exposure across application support, incident management, observability and platform operations – skills that remain highly relevant across the industry.
- A supportive team environment where development is recognised as part of your job, not something you do in your own time.
What You’ll Bring To Make An Impact
You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you will bring a solid technical foundation and a strong desire to continue learning.
Key Requirements Include
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting and resolving application issues in a production environment.
- Experience supporting applications on Linux/Unix systems, or strong foundational knowledge with a desire to work in Linux environments daily.
- Understanding of networks, protocols and diagnostic tools used in application support.
- Ability to use scripting or automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- A working understanding of how applications are built, deployed, supported and improved across their lifecycle.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
Commitment To Non‑Discrimination
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, race, ethnicity, age, national origin, citizenship, religion, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, family structure, marital status, ancestry, domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran or military status, or any other basis prohibited by law.
