Who we are
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve under the Setting Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency supporting the Director, and a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

Beyond the spinifex sand plains of arid central Australia lies Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, one of three national parks leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. The Caring for Culture and Country (CCC) section, together with traditional owners, is responsible for the conservation and management of the jointly managed World Heritage National Park in accordance with both the Tjukurpa and Australian law.

The job

- Implement and monitor natural and cultural resource management programs (threatened/invasive species,



translocations, fire and heritage management).
- Advance Anangu Traditional Owner’s park vision and foster knowledge exchange between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, the community and public.
- Lead and report on flora, fauna, and threatening processes monitoring programs.
- Lead the Caring for Culture and Country team and contribute to a collegiate and supportive workplace as part of the UKTNP senior management team.
- Facilitate community engagement and collaborate with Anangu Traditional Owners through the Tjungungkula Ngura Artunymara (Caring for Country Together) Working Group.
- Coordinate research and environmental impact assessment programs, and advise the Board of Management.
- Develop relationships with regional stakeholders, universities, not-for-profits, and other First Nations ranger groups.

Desirable qualifications:

- Background/qualifications in land management, ecology, archaeology and/or cultural heritage management highly regarded.

Additional requirements:

- Hold a current Apply First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.
- Hold and maintain a current manual driver's licence and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
- Physical requirements involve a combination of outdoor and office-based work.

- Must be an Australian citizen.
- Pre-employment checks including National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and potentially a medical assessment apply.
