About the Role

Retail Assistants support the Store Manager in ensuring high‑quality customer service, handling sales transactions, maintaining the overall appearance of the store, assisting customers with donations, and sorting and pricing items for sale.

Key Responsibilities

- Customer Service: Greets all customers, provides guidance to store areas, informs them of specials, and assists donors and members referred for material aid support.
- Point of Sale: Assists with sales transactions and answers customer enquiries in‑store and over the phone.
- Displays & Merchandising: Works with the store manager to display items attractively and safely, keeps floors and displays clean and fresh.
- Quality Control: Inspects items for sale, ensures suitability, functionality and good presentation; steams, hangs, cleans and packages items; sorts unsuitable items for recycling or waste disposal.
- Pricing: Applies agreed pricing standards and ensures all items are priced before display.
- Safety:



Adheres to secure work practices, keeps children safe under the Salvation Army child‑safe policies, and maintains a hazard‑free environment for staff and visitors.

Qualifications & Skills

- Preferred experience in retail, sales and customer service; on‑the‑job training provided if needed.
- Background check required; Police Check for roles involving handling money; risk‑management assessment for candidates with disclosable history.
- Commitment to safety and child‑safe policies; completion of a Working with Children Check for child‑related roles.
