Her Place Women's Museum is Australia's only dedicated women's museum. Her Place is the go-to hub for stories, debates and advocacy of Australian women's achievements. We make women visible through exhibitions, education and digital innovation. We are transitioning from start-up to a sustainable, multi-stream organisation. We seek a finance professional to help steer our financial strategy and strengthen our governance as we grow.
About Us
Her Place holds full DGR status and is registered with the ACNC. We operate from Studio 1.28 at the Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne, where our permanent museum sits alongside a program of exhibitions, public events and partnerships.

- The Finding Her Research Hub, providing fee-for-service research to councils and developers on gender-equitable place naming

The Role
As Board Treasurer, you will provide financial leadership and oversight to the Board, working closely with the Chair, Executive Director and Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARC).
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial oversight: guiding budgeting, financial strategy and reporting, including presenting the Treasurer's Report at Board meetings
- Governance: chairing the FARC, and ensuring sound financial controls and risk management
- Liaison: working with our bookkeeper and external accountant, and overseeing statutory obligations such as BAS and audit requirements
- Strategy: advising on funding models and financial sustainability as Her Place grows across its three business streams
- Networks: connecting Her Place to your networks to extend our reach and supporter base
Ideal Candidates
- A financial, accounting or related professional background (CA/CPA or equivalent highly regarded)
- Prior experience on a not-for-profit board, ideally in a Treasurer or finance-committee capacity
- A passion for cultural initiatives and women's empowerment
- A cooperative mindset, focused on the organisation's development and growth
Time Commitment
The Board meets every 4-6 weeks
FARC meetings align with the Board meetings
Monthly Financial approvals
Meetings with the ED
