This is a hands-on Solution Architect opportunity embedded within a mid-sized technology function at a purpose-driven financial services organisation. Working autonomously across a portfolio of concurrent initiatives, you will own end-to-end solution design across payments, business process automation, and integration, with meaningful exposure to customer-facing digital channels including mobile and online banking. The environment is collaborative and rapid-paced, sitting within a team of around 40 spanning delivery, engineering, development, and application support. This role demands a proactive practitioner who can engage confidently with business and technology stakeholders, translate complex requirements into practical architectures, and context-switch across multiple workstreams without sacrificing quality or momentum. Infrastructure is vendor-managed, so the focus here is firmly on applications, integration, and process architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end solution design across multiple concurrent initiatives, with a focus on payments, business process automation, and integration, translating business and technology requirements into clear, scalable, and risk-balanced architectural solutions.
- Design and deliver customer-facing digital solutions including mobile banking and online banking platforms, ensuring cohesive integration across applications, systems, and third-party services.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to business and technology stakeholders, providing proactive guidance on solution feasibility, architectural trade-offs, and risk, and influencing outcomes through clear, credible communication.
- Contribute to the development and governance of architectural principles, standards, and documentation, ensuring all solutions align with the enterprise architecture roadmap, regulatory requirements, and security policies.
- Collaborate with delivery teams, vendors,
and cross-functional partners to ensure solutions are built as designed, managing dependencies across concurrent workstreams and maintaining delivery momentum throughout.
Skills & Experience Required
- 10+ years of solution architecture experience within financial services, ideally banking, with deep knowledge of banking capabilities including payments, business process automation, core banking, and digital channels.
- Strong hands-on expertise across integration architecture, APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms, with demonstrated ability to design and deliver solutions concurrently across multiple domains without infrastructure dependency.
- Proven track record delivering customer-facing digital solutions including mobile banking and online banking platforms, with the ability to operate autonomously, context-switch effectively, and maintain delivery quality across a varied project portfolio.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the confidence to provide proactive, candid technical advice to senior business and technology leaders and drive alignment across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline; TOGAF certification or equivalent enterprise or solution architecture framework experience is advantageous.
What's in it for You
- Initial 6-month contract with a competitive day rate on offer.
- Melbourne CBD location with hybrid working arrangements.
- Financial services environment with a focus on payments, integration, and customer-facing digital banking channels, not infrastructure.
- Embedded within a collaborative technology team of around 40 spanning delivery, engineering, and application support, with genuine scope to shape architectural direction.
- High-autonomy role with real breadth across concurrent initiatives, ideal for an architect who thrives on variety and meaningful technical challenge.
