The Team

Join the Health Information Services (HIS) team at the Royal Hobart Hospital-a dedicated group responsible for managing clinical documentation, medical transcription, and health records. The team ensures timely and accurate preparation, scanning, and maintenance of digital medical records, supporting clinicians and external providers with essential information for ongoing patient care.

As a Health Information Officer, you play a key role in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of patient records. Your work ensures continuity of care, supports clinical decision-making, and upholds strict confidentiality standards. By accurately managing health data, you help safeguard patient safety and contribute to the smooth operation of Tasmania’s healthcare system.

The Role

As a Health Information Officer, you will provide administrative and health information support to ensure clinical records are accurately maintained and readily accessible. Key responsibilities include:

- Processing, scanning, uploading and maintaining patient documentation and health records.
- Accurately entering and updating patient information in health information systems.
- Managing confidential clinical records in line with privacy and legislative requirements.
- Providing responsive customer service to clinicians, patients and other stakeholders.
- Assisting with health information requests and supporting day-to-day Health Information Services operations.
- Contributing to quality assurance activities to ensure the integrity and accuracy of health records.

You will need

- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using computerised information systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills,



with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Details of appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

- Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$68,854 to $73,947 per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025
