Our client is seeking a proactive Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to support the safe delivery of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project based in Geelong. This role is initially 2 days per week (8 hours per day), with the potential for additional days as the project progresses.
About the Role
Working closely with the site team, you will play a key role in promoting a robust safety culture across a dynamic electrical construction environment. This is a hands-on site-based position where you'll provide practical HSE advice, monitor compliance, and engage with multiple stakeholders to ensure safe work practices are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor electrical and civil construction activities to ensure work is carried out safely and in accordance with site procedures.
- Provide practical HSE advice and identify opportunities for continuous safety improvement in a fast-changing construction environment.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits and safety walks.
- Review and assess SWMS, risk assessments, permits and other safety documentation.
- Investigate and address safety concerns raised by the client or project stakeholders.
- Promote compliance with relevant legislation,
company policies and project safety standards.
- Confidently engage with supervisors, subcontractors, client representatives and union officials to ensure safe outcomes are achieved.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience as an HSE Advisor within electrical construction, ideally with exposure to renewable energy, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
- A solid understanding of civil construction activities.
- Mid-level career experience with the confidence to work independently on site.
- Strong knowledge of Victorian WHS legislation and construction safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to influence outcomes, challenge unsafe behaviours professionally, and build positive working relationships.
- Strong documentation review and auditing capability.
Highly Regarded
- Experience working on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), renewable energy, substations, transmission or utility projects.
- Electrical trade or technical background.
- Relevant HSE qualifications (Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS or equivalent).
- Current White Card and driver's licence.
