About the role

As a Senior Assessments Officer, you will provide expert heritage advice on approval pathways and the effective management and conservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage, environmental heritage and heritage objects, places, items, relics and values. You will provide specialist advice to government agencies, industry, applicants, Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders to ensure quality heritage and conservation outcomes are achieved. The role also involves preparing high-quality reports, briefings and recommendations, contributing to compliance activities, and supporting effective decision-making on significant and often high-profile projects.

About you

We are seeking an experienced and solutions-focused heritage professional to join Heritage NSW as a Senior Assessments Officer. In this role, you will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to assessing complex development proposals and delivering positive cultural and heritage outcomes for the people of NSW.





You will have demonstrated experience interpreting and applying heritage, planning or environmental legislation, together with the ability to provide expert advice on heritage conservation, assessment processes and approval pathways. You will be confident managing competing priorities and working within statutory timeframes while maintaining a high standard of customer service and professional integrity.

We are looking for someone who can build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, community groups and Aboriginal communities. Your strong communication and negotiation skills will enable you to navigate complex issues, influence outcomes and contribute to meaningful consultation and engagement processes.

Essential requirements

- Tertiary qualifications in heritage management/conservation, Aboriginal heritage, architecture, archaeology, planning or relevant heritage discipline or demonstrated extensive experience in a relevant heritage field.
- Current driver's license.
