About the Role
School psychologists are an essential part of the Department’s school counseling service, working in primary and high schools. They provide counseling and psychological assessment of students to enhance learning and wellbeing outcomes and help families manage their children’s mental health needs. The role offers opportunities for career development and impact on children and young people across the lifespan.
The successful candidate will work primarily at Denman Public School, collaborating with school communities, colleagues, and outside agencies. Professional supervision is provided by the Senior Psychologist Education, with group and peer supervision as part of the broader counseling team.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide counseling and psychological services to students, including short‑term therapeutic interventions within training, experience and supervision limits.
- Engage with and implement the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counseling Service.
- Work with principal, school executive, staff, and student support services to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities.
- Contribute to students’ social, emotional, and academic development and support complex behavioral needs.
- Administer cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral assessments, report results, and collaborate to enhance learning, wellbeing, and mental health.
- Collaborate with learning and support teams, parents, carers, and agencies to develop school‑based support for students.
- Respond as part of a team to support schools experiencing serious incidents.
- Refer students and families to other agencies to support health and wellbeing outcomes.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy, Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG Inc., and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy.
- General or Provisional Psychology Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance – NSW.
- Current and valid driver’s licence with ability and willingness to travel between work sites.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
