Salary Range: $38,559 – $52,581 per annum + super, based on schooling level completion, years out of school and age upon commencement.

Trainee Library & Information Services - Certificate III in Library and Information Services

Under close supervision, this role offers an exciting competency‑based traineeship that builds practical, in‑demand skills in library services through a combination of formal study and hands‑on learning. You will be at the heart of our library branches, supporting the day‑to‑day delivery of exceptional customer service while gaining real‑world experience.
In this role, you will interact with a diverse range of customers, helping resolve enquiries - including digital and technology‑based issues - while actively promoting the full range of library services. This role will assist customers to confidently self‑serve, contribute to the welcoming presentation of library spaces, and support the delivery of engaging library and information programs. You will also help prepare resources that bring our services and programs to life.
This is a dynamic, customer‑focused role that requires flexibility and responsiveness as customer needs evolve. Throughout the traineeship, you will grow your customer service expertise, develop strong personal accountability, and contribute to a culture of customer centricity—playing a part in reshaping how we deliver services to maximise value for our community. You will rotate across Townsville three library branches to gain a wide range of exposure from all sites.
This position will complete a two‑year Certificate III in Library and Information Services through TAFE Queensland.

Qualifications and Experience
In an ideal applicant, we are looking for:
- Willingness to be part of, and promote, a positive safety culture whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Minimum completed of Year 10 with passes in English and Mathematics.
- Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence (or ability to obtain).
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively and be positively involved within a team environment.
- Complete all training and assessment requirements of a Certificate III in Library and Information Services as per the provided training plan. This includes attending and participating in structured formal learning at the nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as well as keeping an accurate and up to date training record book.

* The Council contribution to employees' superannuation for contributing employees shall be 13.5% of the employees' ordinary time earnings subject to the employee contributing a minimum of 6% of their ordinary time earnings.
