The key duties of the position include:

Employment Opportunity

The Governance and Risk Office is responsible for the department's governance, risk management, business continuity, and priorities and delivery frameworks; and providing secretariat support for the department's executive committees. Working in the Governance and Risk office presents opportunities for professional and personal development, including observing and participating in departmental operations, observing decision-making at the most senior levels, and exposure to a broad range of matters and processes.

The department is entering an exciting stage of our risk maturity journey, with the implementation of the PACE delivery framework. This framework, and the business planning processes that underpin it, will provide a great opportunity for risk management to become further embedded in the work practices of the department and for the Risk Adviser to undertake a key role in providing strategic advice and assurance to the senior executive.

Responsibilities of the Risk Adviser include:

- driving the design and implementation of the department's risk management framework
- analysing strategic linkages from divisional operational risks identified through business planning processes
- providing information and support to line areas of the department in relation to risk assessments and application of the department's risk management policy
- engaging with other relevant areas of the department to support a holistic and cohesive approach to risk management
- preparing meeting papers and briefing materials for senior executives
- maintaining the department's enterprise and strategic risk registers
- proactively engaging with business areas to ensure risks are regularly reviewed, including through enterprise risk control testing




- coordinating the department's responses to whole-of-government risk reporting requirements
- leading on administrative tasks to facilitate the Security and Risk Management Committee and Audit and Risk Committee
- collaborating with other entities across Government to exchange ideas and experience to improve risk management practices.

Other attributes we are seeking for this role include:

- strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- the capacity and willingness to innovate, think strategically and engage with enabling systems and technology, including artificial intelligence (AI)
- strong stakeholder engagement skills, including collaborating across government to exchange ideas and experience, and working with relevant areas of the department to support a holistic and cohesive approach to risk management
- a willingness to work collaboratively across the section is essential
- experience in a risk-related role and with delivering the requirements of the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy will be a strong advantage
- a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance, or the willingness and ability to obtain an NV1 clearance is required.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian citizens.





Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
