Senior Accountant – Life Insurance and Investments
Location: Sydney CBD – Permanent. Flexible working (3 days in office, 2 from home).
About the role
Join our Life Insurance and Investments Financial Control team at Challenger Limited, an ASX‑listed investment management firm. The role offers a unique blend of complex balance‑sheet work across a broad range of investment portfolios and direct exposure to front‑office decision making.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare statutory accounts to meet monthly, quarterly and semi‑annual requirements and support the completion of Challenger Life Company’s financial statements and notes for the ASX‑listed annual report.
- Perform monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate movements to ensure a timely month‑end close.
- Record consolidation entries and resolve issues for assigned groups.
- Conduct P&L; and balance‑sheet analysis, including half‑year and year‑end reporting for Challenger Limited’s results.
- Work closely with auditors, providing clear evidence for balances.
- Review processes to improve efficiency and strengthen controls.
- Provide coaching and support to other team members.
- Coordinate with the tax team on compliance matters.
- Investigate and suggest solutions to issues raised, from a systems and accounting perspective.
Required qualifications
- CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) with 2+ years post‑qualification experience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel with large data sets.
- Open mindset toward understanding how IT systems connect to the general ledger.
- Working knowledge of income tax (current and deferred), GST and APRA/ASIC requirements.
- Financial services background preferred.
- Knowledge of financial instruments (derivatives, fixed income, equities) is a bonus.
