Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering fostering, education, residential and family services and caring for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year.
Where and when do we need you?
We are recruiting support workers across our residential children’s homes on the South Coast. These positions focus on being part of a team supporting the development of independent life skills within a therapeutic caring environment. Our aim is to ignite healing through building and sustaining meaningful, trusting, and reciprocal relationships.
- Building respectful impactful relationships: Proactively maintain safe and respectful relationships with children through effective support, guidance, and care, ensuring safe professional boundaries in line with best practice.
- Advocating for children: Engage in key responsibilities for nominated children, ensuring they have a consistent adult presence and specific support plans.
- Active role in play and activities: Plan and execute enriching opportunities such as crafts, outdoor activities, play and learning to provide an enjoyable, varied, and engaged home environment.
- Supporting positive lifestyle choices: Promote a clean, tidy, and homely environment through role modelling and education, encouraging high standards of hygiene, safety, and healthy choices.
- Being a Trauma Informed professional: Use RiiSE training to deliver trauma‑informed responses and appropriate interventions during times of crisis.
- Keeping children safe: Manage child protection issues through effective reporting in line with policies, in partnership with senior leadership and external agencies.
This role is offered full time/permanent, working as part of a rolling rota (Monday–Sunday)
following a 2 on/4 off shift pattern, including one sleep for every other block worked. Days start around 07:00 and finish around 22:30, with all meals provided during mealtimes with the children and staff.
All candidates must have a full driving license and access to a car. Successful candidates will need to provide an enhanced DBS; the cost will be met by Fair Ways. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role; applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Desirable…but Not Essential
- Hold or be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience working with children and/or young people, with additional line management experience beneficial.
