The reason for the hires is that the team is expanding due to winning more panel work and seeking a Senior Associate & Special Counsel to join its Melbourne office (multiple positions).
The Opportunity
This role sits within a high-performing General Insurance Team operating across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane , with a clear need at Special Counsel and Senior Associate levels in Melbourne .
You will work across a diverse mix of defendant insurance matters, including:
- Personal injury (slips & trips, public liability)
- WorkCover and third-party claims
- Coronial inquests
- Sensitive abuse matters
- Claims involving public transport, real estate agencies, childcare providers and institutional clients
The practice includes work for major insurers and institutional clients ,
including religious institution panels.
The Role
- Manage a varied and complex file load with autonomy
- Supervise and mentor junior lawyers within the team
- Contribute to client relationships and panel delivery

Abuse matters are appropriately managed and capped (generally <50% of workload, ~10 files max), with structured mental health support and training in place .
The Ideal Profile
- 8+ PQE (or operating at SA/SC level)
- Admission as a solicitor with a current practicing certificate or eligible for one immediately
- Strong background in defendant insurance | casualty & abuse matters
- Able to run matters end-to-end with minimal supervision
- A reliable, steady operator who can be trusted with key panel work

Remuneration
$230,000 – $300,000 package (depending on experience)
