Communications Consultant About the role

The Communications Consultant provides communications and stakeholder engagement support across a portfolio of major transport infrastructure projects. Working closely with Communications Specialists, project teams, contractors and key stakeholders, the role is responsible for delivering high-quality communications, supporting stakeholder engagement activities, managing stakeholder relationships and enquiries, and helping to protect and enhance the reputation of projects within the community.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Communications

- Research, develop and coordinate a wide range of project communication materials, including:
- Stakeholder correspondence
- Project updates and newsletters
- Construction and works notifications
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Briefing notes and ministerial material
- Presentations
- Website and digital content
- Translate complex technical and project information into clear, accurate and audience-appropriate communications.
- Ensure communications are consistent with project objectives, stakeholder needs and organisational standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

- Support the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement and communications strategies.
- Assist with stakeholder identification and mapping activities across project portfolios.
- Contribute to the preparation and execution of engagement plans and tactical communication initiatives.
- Participate in stakeholder engagement activities and maintain positive relationships with community members, businesses, government agencies and project stakeholders.

Stakeholder Enquiries and Coordination

- Manage routine stakeholder enquiries, feedback and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate stakeholder engagement records, databases and reporting systems.
- Coordinate communication approvals and follow-up actions with project teams,



contractors and internal specialist teams.
- Monitor and track communications activities to ensure delivery against project milestones and commitments.

Issues and Risk Management

- Monitor emerging stakeholder, community and reputational issues impacting project delivery.
- Identify communication risks and escalate complex or higher-risk matters to Communications Specialists as required.
- Support proactive issue management and stakeholder responsiveness across projects.

Key Selection CriteriaEssential

1. Demonstrated experience delivering project communications and stakeholder engagement within major infrastructure, construction, government or similarly large and complex organisations, including contributing to communications strategies and engagement plans and undertaking direct stakeholder engagement activities.
2. Highly developed written communication, editing and research skills, with proven experience preparing accurate, audience-specific materials across multiple communication channels and translating technical information into explicit and accessible content.
3. Strong stakeholder management, coordination and organisational skills, including experience managing enquiries and complaints, coordinating approvals and actions, maintaining accurate records and successfully delivering multiple priorities in collaboration with project teams, contractors and internal stakeholders.

Desirable

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Community Engagement,



Stakeholder Engagement or a related discipline.
2. Project management experience and/or a relevant project management qualification or certification, preferably gained within infrastructure, construction, transport or government project environments.
