Summary
Our client Ebenezer Day Care is seeking to add an Assistant Educator to their nurturing childcare team in Somerville, WA. As a family-based daycare service, they provide a safe, hygienic and supportive workplace where children can learn, play and develop. The role will support daily care, learning activities, family communication and children’s wellbeing within a respectful, inclusive setting.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with preparing safe, engaging and age-appropriate learning environments and activities for children.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, routines, rest periods and group activities.
- Support children with meals, toileting, hygiene, rest and other daily personal care needs.
- Assist with implementing play-based learning experiences guided by an approved early childhood learning framework.
- Encourage children’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development through daily activities and interactions.
- Build positive, respectful and responsive relationships with children in care.
- Observe children’s interests, behaviour and developmental progress and contribute to relevant records.
- Adapt activities, routines and support to suit children’s individual needs, abilities and stages of development.
- Encourage positive behaviour, cooperation, inclusion and respectful interactions between children.
- Support children from diverse cultural, family and developmental backgrounds within an inclusive care environment.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with families regarding children’s routines, participation and wellbeing.
- Maintain clean, hygienic,
safe and well-organised indoor and outdoor childcare areas.
- Identify and appropriately report concerns relating to children’s safety, welfare or development.
- Work collaboratively with educators and other staff to support programme goals and consistent care practices.
- Follow all workplace health and safety, child protection, legal, ethical and service procedures.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

- Must hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or an ACECQA-approved equivalent qualification.
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience in childcare, early childhood education, nursery education or a closely comparable care and learning environment.
- Demonstrated experience supervising children and supporting meals, hygiene, toileting, rest and daily routines.
- Practical experience assisting with play-based learning activities that support children’s development and wellbeing.
- Sound understanding of child safety, supervision, hygiene, child protection and workplace health and safety responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to observe children’s needs and adapt care, activities and support to suit individual developmental requirements.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, educators and other workplace stakeholders.
- Must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, all checks, clearances and first-aid requirements applicable to the role.
