Introduction
Join our Community Services team in Milingimbi, NT and play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of older community members through the preparation of nutritious, high-quality meals. This rewarding position is responsible for planning, preparing and delivering meals in a commercial kitchen workplace while maintaining high standards of food safety and quality.
What you'll do
- Prepare, cook and present nutritious meals in accordance with approved menus, dietary requirements, cultural preferences and food safety standards.
- Plan daily meal production and ensure meals are prepared from raw ingredients using commercial cookery techniques.
- Monitor food quality, portion control and presentation to ensure consistency and client satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic commercial kitchen in accordance with food safety legislation and organisational policies.
- Manage stock levels, rotate stock, receive deliveries and undertake procurement and ordering of food supplies.
- Complete required documentation, including temperature logs, stocktakes, cleaning schedules and ordering records.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance requirements where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with Community Services staff to ensure meals are delivered in accordance with client dietary requirements.
- Assist with menu planning and continuous improvement of food services.
- Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety, food safety and infection control requirements.
What we're looking for
- Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery.
- Demonstrated experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
- Sound knowledge of food safety legislation and safe food handling practices.
- Food Safety Supervisor qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience preparing meals for large groups and accommodating specialised dietary requirements.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
- Experience managing stock, ordering supplies and maintaining kitchen records.
- Current C Class Driver Licence (desirable).
- Previous experience living and/or working in remote First Nations communities would be highly regarded.
