This is an opportunity to apply your trade skills in a practical marine environment, working across vessel construction, sustainment, repair, upgrade and commissioning activities. About the Role

As a Mechanical Marine Fitter, you will install, maintain, repair, overhaul, test and commission mechanical systems and equipment across vessels and shipyard work fronts. You will work closely with supervisors, leading hands, production teams, engineering, quality and project personnel to complete work safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Installing, maintaining, repairing, overhauling, testing and commissioning marine mechanical equipment and systems.
- Working on propulsion systems, shaft lines, rudders, steering systems, pumps, valves, hydraulics, pipework, cooling, bilge, fuel and associated marine machinery.




- Supporting vessel refits, dry-docking activities, repairs, upgrades, commissioning and handover works.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, work packs and inspection documentation.
- Carrying out mechanical fit-up, alignment, adjustment, testing, fault finding and defect rectification.
- Following safety procedures, site requirements, permits, SWMS/JSEA requirements and relevant standards.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

Essential

- Trade qualification such as Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Fitter Machinist, Marine Mechanical Trade or equivalent.
- Experience in fitting, mechanical maintenance, heavy industry, manufacturing, shipbuilding, vessel sustainment or marine engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications and work instructions.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment, alignment tooling, hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- White Card.
- Strong safety mindset, attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a quick-paced shipyard environment.

Desirable

- Marine, defence, ship repair, vessel refit, dry-docking or commissioning experience.
- Experience with shaftlines, rudders, steering systems, hydraulics, piping, pumps, valves, propulsion systems or marine auxiliary systems.
- Previous experience working in a shipyard, workshop or heavy fabrication environment.
- Experience supporting apprentices, trade assistants or less experienced team members.
