Job Description: Senior Livestock Hand Position
We are an established contract mustering outfit operating across remote stations in the Northern Territory, Australia. We manage a crew of ~8 personnel, delivering high-standard livestock management, mustering, and herd husbandry services to the NT pastoral industry.
We are seeking an experienced, self-driven Senior Livestock Hand to join our contract mustering crew operating across rural Australia. This role is based entirely in remote, camp-out settings across the Northern Territory. This role requires an exceptional work ethic. The successful applicant will lead by example, overseeing daily cattle-handling operations, managing the health and welfare of our equine plant, and maintaining digital stock records.
Core Responsibilities
- Mustering & Livestock Handling: Work as an active part of the team to execute daily livestock mustering and drafting across rugged NT terrain using both horses and motorbikes.
- Equine Care & Husbandry: Take hands-on responsibility for the daily care and welfare of the mustering camp's horse plant. This includes feeding, checking soundness, treating minor health issues, maintaining saddlery/tack, and ensuring horses are fit for daily mustering.
- Stock Data Recording: Assist with daily livestock data entry, electronic inventory logging, and record-keeping using proprietary digital systems.
- Station Infrastructure Support: Perform routine maintenance tasks as part of the team, including checking station water points and lines, fencing and temporary mustering yards.
- Camp Contribution: Work cooperatively to support the daily running and upkeep of the mobile camp, ensuring a positive, shared living environment for the crew.
Required Skills, Experience & Licences
- Station Experience: Minimum of 3 years of verified, hands-on experience in livestock handling or contract mustering within an Australian pastoral environment.
- Equine Proficiency: Strong, confident horse-riding skills and practical knowledge of horse welfare and care. Proven capacity to independently care for working horse plant.
- Machinery Operations: Confident and safe operational skills on two-wheel motorbikes.
- Licence: Must hold a valid, unrestricted manual driver’s licence.
- Team Dynamics: Proven capability to live and work closely within a remote team, demonstrating strong self-motivation and the ability to work independantly when required.
Preferred Experience
Familiarity or direct experience with the StockMate livestock management system (or equivalent digital stock data platforms) is highly advantageous.
A valid truck licence would also be highly desirable
