Concrete Support Services (CSS) is a fully independent concrete testing and engineering consultancy supporting construction projects right across Melbourne. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Technician to join our team at Oakleigh South and play a hands-on role in delivering the quality and responsiveness our clients count on.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out and coordinate a full program of on-site and in-laboratory tests on concrete, construction materials and soils including sampling fresh concrete, casting and curing specimens, slump and compressive strength testing all in accordance with Australian Standards.
- Interpret job briefs, project specifications and work assignment instructions, then apply the appropriate testing procedures and select the correct equipment for each task.
- Record, collate and analyse test results, perform the associated computations,



and enter data accurately and promptly into our laboratory data-management systems so clients receive fast, dependable results.
- Prepare technical sketches, charts, tabulations and test reports that support civil engineering works such as roads, drainage, water supply and sewerage reticulation systems, dams and structural elements where concrete and materials testing is required.
- Conduct site inspections of concrete and civil works, and help organise and oversee sampling, re-testing and remedial or maintenance verification where required.
- Estimate material quantities and associated costs, and check that materials and finished works comply with specifications, regulations and relevant contract provisions.
- Collect field data during site surveys and sampling runs including on road, pavement and infrastructure projects and consolidate it for analysis and reporting.
- Calibrate, maintain and correctly operate field and laboratory testing equipment, and keep clear records of its condition and use.
- Uphold the laboratory’s quality management system and safeguard the integrity, impartiality and confidentiality of every result, in line with NATA and Australian Standards requirements.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site supervisors and project engineers,



providing clear technical support and rapid feedback to accommodate critical site timelines.
- Support concrete mix design and quality-control activities, contributing observations and data that help clients meet their construction project needs.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe, well-organised working workplace both on site and in the laboratory.

About You

- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, accurate approach to testing and record-keeping.

Qualifications & Experience

- An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a relevant civil, engineering or materials-related discipline.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.

What We Offer

- Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 plus superannuation per annum.
- Hours: Full-time position, typically 38 hours per week.
- Location: Oakleigh South, VIC.
