Iris Tutoring is seeking a knowledgeable, reliable and committed UCAT tutor to provide face-to-face tutoring to students preparing for the UCAT.
This position would suit a current medical student who achieved a strong UCAT score and is confident teaching the strategies, reasoning skills and time-management techniques required for the examination.
Position Details
Job type: Casual independent contractor
Location: Face-to-face tutoring in Perth
Training rate: $34 per hour
Ongoing rate: $40 per hour after successfully completing the training period
Schedule: After-school hours and weekends, depending on class availability
The successful applicant will initially complete a paid training period at $34 per hour. During this period, they will observe lessons, become familiar with our teaching methods and resources, and receive guidance on managing UCAT classes.
Once the training period has been successfully completed and the tutor is ready to manage classes independently, the pay rate will increase to $40 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach face-to-face UCAT group classes
- Independently supervise and manage the students allocated to the class
- Teach effective strategies for each section of the UCAT
- Help students improve their speed, accuracy, reasoning and decision-making
- Clearly explain difficult questions and demonstrate efficient solving methods
- Ensure all students remain focused and actively participate during lessons
- Monitor each student’s progress and identify areas requiring improvement
- Provide individual support to students within the group
- Conduct timed practice activities and mock examinations
- Mark students’ work and provide constructive feedback
- Prepare for lessons and become familiar with the provided resources
- Maintain professional communication with students, parents and Iris Tutoring
- Be punctual, organised and reliable for all allocated classes
- Commit to the role on an ongoing basis
Essential Requirements
- Must currently be studying medicine
- Must have achieved a robust UCAT score
- Strong understanding of UCAT question types and examination strategies
- Confident managing and teaching a group of students
- Excellent communication and explanation skills
- Patient, encouraging and professional
- Reliable and committed to allocated classes
- Able to provide face-to-face tutoring in Perth
- Valid Working With Children Check or willingness to obtain one
- Willing to provide evidence of UCAT results and current medical enrolment
Previous tutoring experience is not required, as paid training, guidance and teaching resources will be provided. However, applicants must be willing to learn our teaching approach and confidently manage group classes after completing the training period.
Pay: $33.00 – $40.00 per hour
