- Experience: 8+ years of IT experience with minimum 5+ years of experience with SQL Server (versions 2012 through to 2022/2026).
- Tools: Proficiency in SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA), SQL Server Profiler and SQL Server Management Studio SSMS.
- Certifications: Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Troubleshooting: Secondary-level problem-solving for resolving connectivity, permission, or performance issues during and after migration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Migration Planning & Assessment: Conduct comprehensive analysis of source environments to determine object compatibility and migration readiness specifically Logins, Jobs, Services (SSRS/SSAS/SSIS), Cluster Objects, Listeners, DB Objects (SPs, Triggers, Tables, Views etc) as well as DB Mails & Linked Servers.
- External Integrations, Upstream/Downstream Flows: Analyse logs to find out integrations outside of the SQL Server DB/Instance specifically listing the Upstream & Downstream Data Flows from the SQL DB
- Encryption / Certificates:
Review encryptions & certificates to ensure seamless DB migrations during cutover.
- Execution & Cutover: Perform data transfers using appropriate methodologies to minimize downtime during final cutovers.
- Post-Migration Validation: Perform Data Validation checks & reports (DB Objects & Tables) Execute smoke tests, verify data integrity, and run performance baselines to ensure the target environment meets or exceeds original performance metrics.
- Performance Tuning: Analyse execution plans and optimize queries, indexes, and server configurations (e.g., MaxDOP, Cost Threshold for Parallelism) along with SQL Cluster configurations following migration to ensure stability.
- Setting Standardisation: Implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions like Always On Availability Groups in the new environment.
