About Wellness Station

Wellness Station is an established exercise physiology clinic providing individualised, evidence-based care to people with chronic health conditions, disabilities, injuries and complex exercise needs.

We are seeking an Accredited Exercise Physiologist to provide services from our Heidelberg clinic on Saturdays.

About the Role

This is an independent subcontractor position commencing with a regular 4.5-hour Saturday service block. The Saturday schedule may increase to approximately 6 hours as the caseload develops. The role can grow into a part-time/full-time position.

The successful practitioner will work collaboratively with the Wellness Station team and referring health professionals.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include:

- Conducting initial consultations, clinical interviews and functional assessments
- Developing safe, individualised and evidence-based exercise programs
- Delivering one-to-one exercise physiology consultations
- Supporting clients with chronic disease, disability, pain, injury and reduced physical capacity
- Monitoring symptoms, exercise tolerance and functional progress
- Progressing or modifying programs according to the client’s response
- Providing education regarding exercise, pacing, symptom management and sustainable physical activity
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical notes
- Preparing brief progress updates or reports when clinically required
- Communicating appropriately with GPs, specialists, support coordinators and other treating practitioners
- Managing clinical risks and escalating concerns when appropriate
- Following clinic policies, privacy requirements and professional standards
- Maintaining client confidentiality and securely managing clinical information
- Contributing to a professional, supportive and client-centred clinic setting

- Appropriate rights to work in Australia
- Robust clinical documentation and written communication skills
- The ability to work independently and manage a scheduled caseload
- A professional, reliable and client-centred approach

ESSA currently requires AEPs providing in-person exercise services to maintain First Aid and annual CPR certification. ESSA’s insurance guidance recommends professional indemnity and public liability cover for independent practitioners. (ESSA)

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

- Chronic disease management
- Musculoskeletal rehabilitation
- POTS, dysautonomia or orthostatic intolerance
- Long COVID, persistent fatigue or complex chronic conditions

- Osteoporosis and falls prevention
- NDIS-funded exercise physiology
- Mental health and neurodivergence
- Medicare GP Chronic Condition Management referrals
- Paediatric or adolescent exercise physiology

Newer graduates with strong clinical reasoning, professionalism and an interest in developing their skills are also encouraged to apply.

The credential, certification, insurance, confidentiality and professional-obligation requirements above have been adapted from the supplied employment offer.

Important consideration: A fixed weekly shift performed at the clinic as part of its core service can sometimes have characteristics of employment rather than independent contracting. Fair Work assesses the real substance and practical operation of the entire relationship, including control, financial risk, equipment, delegation, hours and the expectation of ongoing work. It would be prudent to have the proposed contractor arrangement reviewed before advertising or engagement. (Fair Work Ombudsman)
