Adapt and Thrive Disability Solutions is seeking a reliable, physically capable and experienced male Disability Support Worker to join an established support team assisting an adult male NDIS participant in the Gympie area.

This is a hands-on support role for a participant with significant physical disability and high daily support needs. We are looking for someone who is confident, professional, dependable and understands that consistency and continuity of care are extremely important.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The participant requires significant assistance across activities of daily living while being supported to maintain choice, dignity and as much independence as possible.

Duties may include:

- Full personal care, including showering, bed bathing, dressing and grooming
- Intimate personal hygiene and continence support
- Toileting and bowel care assistance
- Assistance with meals, drinks and feeding
- Transfers between bed, wheelchair, recliner, shower/commode chair and other surfaces
- Following established manual-handling procedures
- Offering and appropriately using prescribed assistive technology
- Pressure-area monitoring, repositioning and positioning support
- Supporting prescribed physiotherapy exercises and therapy routines within the worker's scope
- Supporting community access and appointments
- Assistance with household activities directly related to the participant's supports
- Supporting communication, social interaction and daily choices
- Monitoring changes in health, behaviour or physical presentation
- Maintaining a safe and hygienic support environment
- Providing appropriate handovers between shifts
- Completing accurate progress notes, job logs and required documentation

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This role requires someone who is physically fit and confident providing significant hands-on physical support.

You must also have strong spoken and written English.



Clear communication is essential when working with the participant, family, other workers, management and allied health professionals, and written documentation must be accurate and professional.

We are particularly interested in someone who is:

- Comfortable providing high-level physical assistance
- Able to follow instructions, risk assessments and support plans
- Confident maintaining professional boundaries
- Able to work effectively as part of an established team
- Comfortable receiving direction and feedback from management
- Able to recognise and report health, safeguarding and WHS concerns
- Committed to participant dignity, choice and control while still following safe work practices

This is not a passive support role.

Workers are expected to remain attentive and available to the participant throughout their rostered support period.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

- ✔ Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex mental health conditions
- ✔ Previous experience working in Supported Independent Living (SIL) or high-intensity psychosocial disability supports
- ✔ Robust understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice
- ✔ Current ABN
- ✔ Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- ✔ Current National Police Check
- ✔ Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
- ✔ Current Driver's Licence and reliable insured vehicle
- ✔ Current Comprehensive Car Insurance




- ✔ Current NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
- ✔ Completion of all relevant NDIS Worker Training Modules
- ✔ Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- ✔ Ability to work independently while maintaining professional boundaries

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

While not all of the following are mandatory, preference may be given to applicants who hold relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in disability, health or nursing-related support, including:

- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
- Certificate IV in Disability Support
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability)
- Diploma of Community Services
- Enrolled Nurse (EN) qualification or current nursing students
- Registered Nurse (RN) qualification
- Other relevant Allied Health, Health Services or Community Services qualifications
- Manual handling and safe transfer training
- Medication assistance training
- Continence and personal care training
- Pressure injury prevention and pressure care training
- Complex care or high physical support needs experience
- Experience supporting people with significant mobility impairment
- Experience supporting people following stroke or acquired brain injury (ABI)
- Experience with wheelchairs, hoists, commode/shower chairs and other mobility equipment
- Experience implementing physiotherapy or allied health programs under professional direction
- Experience recognising and escalating changes in a participant's health or functional presentation
- Understanding of positive behaviour support, emotional regulation and person-centred approaches
- Experience working collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and other allied health professionals

Pay: $40.00 – $50.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
